Back to school?

Obviously the most important thing about the first day back to school is the outfit selected. Mine is a white lace shift dress and camel riding boots... all vintage. I'm kind of dying for the look and now I'm brainstorming how I can come close to it on the second day! Tell me what you think! And show me what your first day of school outfit is, although for most seniors, the last day of school is probably the only thing your thinking about! xoxo

Olympic Style Icon: Kate Middleton

In honor of the olympics and the royal women hosting it, I have devoted this post to Kate Middleton's truly iconic style. Ever since marrying into the royal family, and even before that time, Kate truly proved herself to be the princess of fashion. And being the lover of hair accessories, I mean with my obsession of Blair Waldorf, I can't help but envy her collection of fabulous hats. Yet, unlike some royalty who appear to be purely materialistic they majority of the times we are graced with Kate's superb style is when she attends charity events. Additionally, Kate is not afraid to wear the same outfit multiple times - even within the same week! - and proves that spending a fortune is not necessary to become a style icon. However, most importantly as the olympics is nearing its end, while attending the women's gymnastics individual vaulting finals, the duchess compliments the fierce five on their fab leotards.

I leave you with a royal goodbye

my high waisted obsession

I have been meaning to do a post on high-waisted shorts forever! A couple weeks ago I made 2 pairs, both out of my mom's old jeans from the 80's. In order to spruce them up and make them new, I added fabric details and tightened the fabric at the butt. I absolutely love this first pair. They are so unique due to their olive color. I got the idea for the colorful fabric panel from Free People's diy blog and actually used a freepeople free shopping bag to make it. When making your own pair of cutoffs I have a few tips:

1. Try them on first and make sure they will look good, if they are too small, cutting them most likely will change nothing and will result in a pair of pants you can no longer sell or donate
2. Draw with a pen on the front and back where you want them to fall on your body - be sure to account for cuffing the bottoms - you don't want to guess because you may end up with a pair of shorts that fits perfect in the front but doesn't cover your butt
3. Pick out something unique to add to them so you can make you make on these brand new shorts of yours. Some suggestions:
- Do a lace pocket
-Pick a fun print and hand-stitch it on
-Bleach or dye the material
-Add studs or other embellishments
